Sun 太陽 (6/9/2003)
這就是我們的太陽,而且是今天的太陽。雖然這個樣子跟平常大家看到的太陽是不一樣,但這真是太陽來的,這個樣子是由位於太陽的太陽和太陽風層探測器所拍回的,你可以看到太陽上有很多不同的特徵,這會等日後慢慢再介紹。不過留意一點,這圖的顏色只是人工假色,不是真色來的。

Caption:: This is our Sun, our Sun's image captured today. Although it might a bit look different from the one you know, it is a real image of the Sun. This image was captured by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory in space. As you can see, there are a lot of features on the sun surface, however, I could only introduce them in the future. Finally, one last note, this image is in false color, therefore, do not think that this is the true color of our Sun.

NGC 3370 (5/9/2003)
哈勃的新相,這是一個叫NGC3370的星系,位於獅子座,距離我們9800萬光年(很遠吧?不,相對於宇宙的大小,這一點真的不遠,不過9800萬都有6個零呢)。現在可以很清楚看到它的旋臂,原來在9年前,NGC3370中有一顆星死亡時大爆炸(稱為超新星爆炸),這超新星是有名的SN1994ae,天文學家就利用了它的光度來測量宇宙中的距離。

Caption:: Amid a backdrop of far-off galaxies, the majestic dusty spiral NGC 3370 looms in the foreground in this NASA Hubble Space Telescope image. Recent observations taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys show intricate spiral arm structure spotted with hot areas of new star formation. But this galaxy is more than just a pretty face. Nearly 10 years earlier, NGC 3370, located in the constellation Leo, hosted a bright exploding star.

SINGG Survey 中性氣體星系離化巡天 (4/9/2003)
一式六張的星系相,但這些星系相有些特別,它們並不是平時用普通的可見光或X射線拍回來的,而是特別處理過的相,是可以看到星系中H-alpha發射線分佈的相,你見到那些分佈於星系上的圓點就是了。H-alpha發射線是氫原子在吸收完能量之後會放出的其中一條光譜線,這譜線可以幫助我們找尋離化氣體的地方,從而知道恆星形成的地方。這正是一個叫中性氣體星系離化巡天的計劃所進行的研究。

Supernova Remnant IC 443 超新星爆炸殘骸 IC 443 (3/9/2003)
這是一個星雲,叫IC443,或者你會心想,這不是什麼超新星爆炸殘骸嗎?對,這是質量大的星死亡大爆炸後留下來的,但它本身的形態就是一個星雲,一個密度比周圍高,擁有氣體、塵埃的地方。所以星雲的其中一類是這些超新星爆炸殘骸。

Caption:: When a massice star runs out of nuclear fuel, a dramatic cycle takes place, resulting in one of most violent phenomena known in the Universe: a supernova explosion. The outer layers of the star are expelled extremely violently and collide continuously with intervening interstellar matter made of gas and dust. It is the fast-expanding shock wave of ionized material from the supernova that causes the structures and colors seen on this image. In many cases, the explosion leaves a collapsed remnant that may be either a neutron star or a black hole.

Colors of Fall 秋之色 (2/9/2003)
秋天快到了,雖然還覺得天氣仍然很熱,但很快就踏入秋天了(中秋也快到了呢),秋天的顏色確實幾靚,枯黃的落葉散落著...要說秋天的代表,楓葉一定不少得,所以用了它用當今天的相。

Caption:: It's the time of Fall, though it's still very hot. The colors of fall is really amazing, brownish orange leaves fall on the ground...While we are talking about the colors of fall, we can never forget maple-leaf, thus, it becomes the pic of the day.
